POP MUSIC
The genre ‘pop’ was developed in the mid-1950s. Its main market it was aiming for was youth. The reason why it is called pop music is because it was referring to music that was popular. The main things that define what the pop genre is, were things like the length of the songs would be between 2 ½ to 3 ½ minutes. It would have a consistent rhythm all the way through. It would have the structure of verse chorus and generally a 32 bar form. Its main focus was on the melodies and catchy hooks which got people boppin’ to the song the first time they hear it. Pop music is still one of the most listened to genres of music in today’s society.

ROCK MUSIC
Rock music can be part of the genre pop. It became popular in the 1960s. The main sound of rock music comes from the electric guitar or even the acoustic guitar and also has a strong back beat that is either created by a bass guitar or the drums. Between the 1960s and the 1970s rock started to develop its own different subgenres. Rock blended with folk music which created folk-rock, with blues it became blues-rock, and with jazz it became jazz-rock fusion. Especially in the mid 1970s there were loads more subgenres in rock such as; , glam rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock, and punk rock. In the 1980s the rock subgenres that evolved were new wave rock, hardcore punk rock and alternative rock. In the 1990s rock subgenres included grunge rock, Britpop rock, indie rock, and nu metal rock. Today there are still many of these different subgenres of rock played today and there are many new types of rock forming and the years go by like, Electronic rock, Psychedelic rock, death metal rock, and lots more.

JAZZ MUSIC
Jazz is a type of musical art form that originated at the beginning of the 20th century. Since the early 20th century jazz music has spawned into a variety of different subgenres. Dating between the 1910s and now. While jazz is hard to define, improvisation is one of its key elements. In the 1910s there were subgenres like big band and swing. Between 1920 and 1930 there were things like bebop, afro Cuban and Brazilian jazz. In the 1940s and the 1950s there were subgenres like free jazz, modal jazz, had bop, cool jazz and Dixieland revival. In 1960 to 1970 jazz subgenres included soul jazz, jazz fusion, post bop and Latin jazz In the late 1980s the jazz subgenres were acid jazz, funk jazz and hip-hop jazz.
